That infamous KB936357 update for Intel chips

I haven't had any problems except perhaps an increase in red alerts in my
Event Viewer from 1 or 2 to 4 or 5/day, but that could be other factors.
My concern is that I allowed it in to both my XP Pros and my Vista Ultimate
(I triple boot) and I have a mere Pentium 4 HT @ 3ghz...not a Core-2 Duo
etc. etc.
Should I uninstall it or leave it?
The wording of the KB is nebulous saying Intel processors, particularly
Core-2 Duo. so should I be concerned or not?

What Events are showing, Peter ? That would determine whether you should
uninstall it or not.
Frankly, the lack of documentation in regards to KB936357 is why I did
not allow it to install on either of my systems.
Since neither system has the CPUs listed in the KB article ... the
updates were hidden.

Warning these are copied directly so a bit long winded.

These may or may not have any bearing on this particular update, but as I
wasn't getting them before
it makes me wonder if it is the update or the fact that I installed ATI's
latest Catalyst Center.

I've uninstalled that update on instruction from Microsoft Update Support
and those errors persist so obviously there is another problem.

Yes, I have the latest drivers for my card but lately (since AMD takeover)
their drivers haven't been quite as reliable as they used to be.
Since Microsoft Support got in touch with me I've uninstalled that update
and hidden it, and now have no such errors.
The odd yellow alert here and there nothing serious.

It's really a pity that KB936357 was pushed out without adequate
information as to just WHY it was being offered for CPUs not included in
the list on the KB article.
Frankly, I would NEVER install an update that does not offer a
sufficient explanation as to just WHY the update should be installed.

From now on my updates are set to notify me first and then download once
I've okayed them.

However...those side-by-side ATI/VC80 errors started reappearing this
morning...I'm giving up on it. As long as the darned machine works I don't
care.
