This has occurred at least 3 or 4 times over the last several years and I
can`t remember what I did to fix it ! Has MS or anyone ever found a SIMPLE
fix to correct this problem. I havent been able to install any new updates
since Aug.2007 since all the scan does is run & run and nothing ever comes up.

I already tried registering around 8 .dll`s and they all succeeded but still
no fix !

Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Using just the built-in SP2 firewall and the Free 7.5 AVG Virus app.

Regards & Thanks for any replys.

Did you reinstall or upgrade WinXP SP2 in Aug-07?
===============================
Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,
AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before
attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party
firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!

I installed SP2 over three years ago. I did not do a re-install last Aug.07.
The only thing I remember doing is uninstalling net.2.0 & then re-installing
it back in the pc in order to get some new MS KB security patches that became
available and MS suggested that the user needed to un-install net.2.0 &
re-install in order to get the KB`s to install correctly. I did that and they
worked. A few weeks later the infinite loop commenced and has never been
resolved.

I have tried disabling the AVG virus app and I am ONLY running the SP2
firewall. I have also checked on numerous items in the IE tools internet
options to make sure everything is O.K. and it appears to be.

Still the same infinite loop.

Ignore the title/topic and follow the Resolution Method 1 (preferably) or
Method 2 in this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100

Before you begin, write down the .NET Framework versions that are currently
installed. If you're running WinXP, you /must/ have at least .NET Framework
v1.1 installed when you're finished.

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785

If still no joy...
