Hi folks... I am wondering what is going on here... every website I seem to
land on as soon as it opens is constantly getting my Information Bar warning
driopping down and telling me that "This website wants to runthe following
add on: Adobe Flash Player.....

Now this is geting highly annoying as I dont want to let Adobe run at every
site I visit due to flash ad's and some sites trying to serve malware thru
some of the Flash Player vulnerabilities...my query is how can I get the
warning to stop for this particular instance? I like the information bars
warning for the other thing's it does... but this bit where it goes off with
every page I visit is getting highly annoying.. and thoughts or suggestions
are appreciated..

So how are you blocking Flash content, have you disabled the Flash Player in
Manage Add-ons? Disabling the Flash Player in Manage Add-ons should not
generate an Information Bar, but rather a Manage Add-ons Icon on the Status
bar when visiting a site that contains Flash content.

So how are you controlling this on a site by site basis, do you have "Run
ActiveX controls and plug-ins" set to prompt in the Internet Zone?

I'm not aware of any current attack vectors in Adobe Flash Player version
10.0.22.87, is this the version of the Flash Player that you currently have
installed on your machine:
http://www.adobe.com/support/securit...apsb09-01.html

I would first suggest that you make sure you have the latest Flash Player
installed on your machine, should be version 10.0.22.87:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

If you need to update your Flash Player be sure to Un-install it first using
the Adobe Flash Player Un-installer utility:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Then visit the Adobe web site and re-install the Flash Player.

Next make sure you have the Internet Zone set to it's Default settings in
Internet Options.

If you want to disable the Flash Player then use the Manage Add-ons function
in IE8 to disable the Flash Player.
Or, look into Third party Flash Blocker applications.

Good luck,

Donald,
Thanks for the info, but it is not helping me.
I am having the same problem as pl.

I just uninstalled Adobe Flash with its new installer,
and then installed it fresh, version 10.0.32.18

Now virtually everysite I open with IE 8 the information
bar pops up and asks if I want to run 'Adoobe Flash Player'

Well, I do want to run it, but I don't want the message every
time I open a new site. [Full disclosure-- I have hated Adobe
and its products for at least 15 years].

I went to the internet zone and tried the defaults. That did not
work. Then I tried enabling the auto-prompt for Active X.
That did not work.

Again, I don't want to disable Flash. It is unfortunately deeply
embedded in internet usage it seems.

I don't know much or anything about any of this, but just want
to get rid of this info bar.

Thanks again.

I am unable to reproduce your symptom(s) here with any version of IE(6,7, or
8) with the latest Adobe Flash Player Version 10.0.32.18 installed on any
Windows XP SP3 machine.

> I am having the same problem as pl.

If you are not the OP, in the future please begin your own thread with
regard to your issues...it helps to avoid confusion.

> I just uninstalled Adobe Flash with its new installer,

How did you "Uninstall" the Flash Player with a "new installer"?

Is that a Typo on your part, did you actually mean to say that you
un-installed the Flash Player with the Adobe Flash Player Un-installer
utility located here:

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...ash_player.exe

> and then installed it fresh, version 10.0.32.18

And how did you do the Install the new version 10.0.32.18?

Did you use the Online installer, or did you download the Manual Flash
Player Installer package located here:

http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie

> Now virtually everysite I open with IE 8 the information
> bar pops up and asks if I want to run 'Adoobe Flash Player'

You might try starting from scratch following the instruction below:

1. Download the following two files and save them to your Desktop

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...ash_player.exe
http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie

2. Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable any Real-Time
Secruity Application(s) running in the background on your machine.

3. Run the Un-installer file from the Desktop to completely remove the Flash
Player from your System.

4. Run the Installer file from the Desktop to reinstall the latest version
of the Flash Player.

(NOTE: If you're using Windows Vista be sure to run the two files as
Administrator.)

If the the above procedure does not resolve your issue and you are using
Windows Vista, then navigate to the following folder using Windows Explorer:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash

Inside that folder will be a file named "FlashUtil10c.exe", make sure you
are connected to the Internet and doubleclick on that file. Allow it to
update the Flash Player.

If none of this resolves your issue, you can look for further assistance in
the Adobe Flash Player Forum:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/we...s/flash_player

Or:

Adobe offers free email support(via a Web Case) for Flash Player
installation problems, you might turn there next:

1. Go to the Adobe Support Portal:
http://www.adobe.com/go/supportportal/

2. When you get to the Support Portal page, click on the Button that says:
"Create an Account"

3. Once you've created an account with Adobe and you're logged in to that
Account, at the bottom of the page use the selector to select:
"Installation Help"

4. In the 'Choose product' category put a tick in the radial next to:
"Additional products"

5. From the selection menu select:
"Adobe Flash Player"

6. Now click the button that says "Continue"

You will taken to a page entitled:
"Create a support case"

7. Here you can type your support request and send it to Adobe.

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Donald

First, some housekeeping. I again want to thank you for your obviousl
very thourough information
Second, I apologize for not listing a separate thread. Didn't know th
protocol
Third, yes, I meant to say I uninstalled the program with th
uninstaller
not the installer

Now, to update you on your information

Again, a few facts, which doubtless I should have presented earlier
This is a brand new computer I am having the adobe problem with
It came with a 64-bit Vista premium system [and lost of ram and cp
power]
Everything worked fine,[I assume Adobe Flash was installed when i
came]

Then the problems occured as outlined earlier. Only, so that you wil
know
I diabled the Flash program at one point to get some relief, only i
stil
kept popping up! go figure

Anyway, I have tried reloading the uninstaller and installer
Disconnecting from the internet, rebooting, diabling all the security
could get my hands on and then uninstalling and installing

Same problem

I am going to pursue some of the other suggestions you have made

I feel this is a very onerous breakdown for Adobe

Thanks again

Denn

Are you by any chance trying to get the Flash Player to work with the 64 bit
version of IE on your machine?

If so, Adobe does not yet have available a 64 bit version of the Flash
Player. The Flash Player will only work with the 32 bit version of IE.

Good luck,

Hi

Well, funny thing, I didn't know there was a 64-bit versus 32 bi
thing
But looking it up, I see it has been around a while. But I checked an
I am only using the 32-bit ie

I did try look up the file "FlashUtil10c.exe" but could not find i
unde
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash or on a general search of m
computer. Also could not find Macromed under system32. So I don't kno
what that tells us

Also tried to log into the Adobe forum but my computer locked up o
each attempt. [That is very rare for this new powerful system I have]

I will try your last suggestion. I know this must sound like I a
shooting down all your ideas, but I am trying, as the info pop-up i
really annoying to me, especially since it all ran so smoothly before
tried to update flash

Again, thanks for all your responses

Denn

I will assume you are replying to me in this thread and not replying to
yourself.

The 64 bit Windows Operating system comes with both a 64 bit and 32 bit
version of Internet Explorer. The 32 bit version is set as default,
because not all Third Party venders (such as Adobe) offer 64 bit versions of
their products.

See Adobe's information on using the Flash Player on a 64 bit Operating
System here:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/6b3af6c9.html

Well, you did not tell us until half way through this conversation that you
are using a 64 bit Windows Operating System. So the install location for
the Flash Player will be different for your Operating System.

Instead of looking for the "Macromed" folder under:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed

Look for the the installation of the "Macromed" folder under:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Denny,

Just so you don't start to wonder if you are losing it, I am experiencing the same thing, and it just started yesterday. Interestingly, I am running XP SP3 and not Vista. I have downloaded the lastest version of Flash following all the rules, and still I get that damned Add-on request every page I go to. Just did not want you to think you were alone on the Microsoft island. If by chance I figure out how to fix it on XP, I'll let you know, as I'm pretty sure it will resolve it on Vista as well. I have a feeling this has something to do with the installation of Flash 10.x, which Adobe automatically has you install, even though officially it is still in beta. One thing I am going to try and you might, too, is to go through the official uninstall of Flash, Google a 9.x version of Flash and install it, and see what happens. That's what I'm going to do.

Hang in there, my friend ...

Bill

Denny,

Well, pretty interesting result on this end from the experiment I just suggested. I uninstalled 10.x using Adobe's uninstaller, then found 9.x on Google. I installed 9.x, and the first 3 sites I went to did NOT ask for the Adobe Flash Player add-on. I thought, "Whoo-hee! We've solved it till Adobe gets the 10.x thing resolved!" ... Then I came back here to tell you -- at which point I started getting the same problem. ARGH!! I then went to some random sites, and again got the add-on request -- albeit sporadically. I think this is one to write to Adobe about (I know I'm going to). They are usually really quick about fixing this type of issue, and in my experience, the more who write to them about it, the faster they will act. The bottom line as far as I'm concerned is: 1) This is not anything you are doing wrong. 2) This is not an exclusively Vista issue. 3) This appears to be not be exclusively a Flash 10.x issue exclusively. 4) This is not a 32 vs 64 issue. 4) It seems to have just started in the past few days. 5) Users are ready to revolt, as this is REALLY irritating.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help ...

Bill
