If I install latest WGA update, do I have to uninstall previous version
before new update is applied?.
I guess I must have been one of the lucky users, as I've had no problems
with WGA validation tool, or WGA notification, however, on checking, I
find I'm running WGA notification version 1.5.0526.0,and WGA validation
tool version 1.5.0530, is there really any need for me to change when
I'm trouble free, "why fix what aint broke"?
Cheer's Bo.

The documentation indicates that updating to the new version
is a way of uninstalling the old version. If it's necessary to
uninstall the old version *without* installing the new version,
then Microsoft has furnished a procedure to do that:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921914/en-us

I don't blame you for being nervous, but the thing is going to
change from time to time, and the new version seems better.

Better at what? Making XP run smoothly?

The latest KB905474 which is programmed to make less mess, call
home seldom, and has a straight, non-beta EULA is better than the
test update that preceded it: The test was programmed to make more
mess, call home incessantly, and had a tricky beta EULA. For these
reasons, those who want this update should move to the new one.

The update's function is to shame users with softlifted Windows into
coughing up for this Microsoft operating system they're using. If you
do not approve of this, or think Microsoft is lying about respecting
your privacy, as it is about the program being uninstallable, reject it.

It's sort of like going to the circus - if a few kids sneak under the tent
without buying tickets, it's not that big of a deal. If 90% of the crowd
has done that, the circus needs to do something about the tent flaps.

But it doesn't do *anything* to improve XP or the user's experience and
can lead to problems.

I was tricked into install the first one. I have researched MS'
instructions on how to remove it and the instructions are flawed. So, if
I want my computer to be WGA SPYWARE free, I need to reformat and
reinstall Windows. Of course, the day may come when it will be required,
not optional, to get updates.

This is BS. A pirated copy can be set to AU with download but let me
install and the pirated copy can continue to be used with all the bona
fide critical updates. The people who do download WGA SPYWARE think they
have a legit copy and usually do. As has been posted here and elsewhere,
legit copies get flagged as pirated copies. In addition, MS has NO right
to insist that its paying customers be the police. If MS thinks they are
being stolen from, the should call the police or FBI, not act like THEY
are the police or FBI.

It's more like Big Brother forcing paying customers to fix the flaps.

Flawed and very complicated instructions. No thanks. I will reformat
first. I know how to do that right.

Note that there are no instructions for the latest WGA SPYWARE as it is
uninstallable.

KB905474-Uninstaller.exe will get rid of it. Worked for me last night.
Find it at http://patch-info.de/WinXP/2006/06/07/05-47-32.html

Just what I want to do, spend my time uninstalling spyware. Besides, I
can't read German.

Thanks, but I will reformat this weekend, not just because of WGA but
for other reasons as well.
