inplace re-install

I am running Vista and want to do an in place install (on top of existing
Vista install). If I do this, will the domain membership of the original
install be changed?

Vista doesn't work like XP did. It is an image based installation rather
than a selective file install.
Yyour personal data (if left in the default Vista created folders) and
settings will be lost unless you back them up.
Before you tried that, I would do a complete backup AND run the file &
settings transfer wizard.
After reinstalling, you can try to restore your data using the settings
transfer wizard, and have the real backup if that doesn't work properly.
