Instaaltion failure: "failed to spawn COM server" error, code 0x80070005

Hi,

Further to yesterday's post regarding a failure to install downloaded
Windows Updates, I have looked at the Updates log file in the Windows
folder and found the following:

Handler Attempting to create remote handler process as COMPUTER01\User in
session 0
Misc =========== Logging initialized (build: 5.8.0.2469, tz: -0000)

Misc = Process: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe
AUClnt FATAL: Error: 0x80070005. wuauclt handler: failed to spawn COM server
Handler FATAL: 0x80070005: ERROR: Remote update handler container process
created (PID: 1100), but exited before signaling event
Agent * WARNING: Exit code = 0x80070005
Agent *********
Agent ** END ** Agent: Installing updates [CallerId = WindowsUpdate]

In the above I edited out the dates and times etc.

I was logged in as an Administrator at the time.

Can anyone suggest what's causing the error and how to fix it?

I eventually resolved the problem myself. If you are interested in the

The post also contains some suggestions on how to improve the quality of
Windows Update error reporting , in case the post is spotted by any
Microsoft personnel!
