Install button greyed out in Vista Windows Update

I just installed a new Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 and noted a
problem with screensaver activation on Windows Vista Ultimate:
http://blogs.sqlxml.org/bryantlikes/...-in-vista.aspx

Looking at the above page for a solution, I found that an update is needed
for Vista to solve the problem.

However, when I started Windows Update in Vista, I found that none of the
optional upgrade options (including the fix for the screensaver issue) can be
selected and installed. I can select the option, but the install button
remains greyed out!

I have tried various system restore points (thinking that some drivers I
have installed recently might be the culprit) and also tried turning off
Norton Internet Security. The button just won't light up and allow me to
click and install the updates.

Any suggestions?

I found my solution in the end...

Seems that the checkbox next to each option went missing! I tried installing
this: Windows Update Agent 3.0 For XP and Vista (32 bit)
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

The checkboxes came back after this.

Managed to get my updates installed.... finally!
