Install error 1603

Hi
I had to 'repair' the XP on my PC after exchanging the mobo. Everything
seems fine except that I can't install Live Messenger anymore. The
installation always terminates with error 1603. I have downloaded the latest
version from MS and also tried to correct the problem with the tips from the
MS website regarding this issue. However, none of them helped.

Any ideas?

Greetings Franz,

What else are you seeing besides the 1603? 1603 is a generic error which simply means the
installation failed.

Nothing ! The Messenger Setup starts the installation and it ends with a
screen that it did not install. If i click 'Finish' the Error message with
the 1603 code shows up saying that I should go to messenger.livi.com and
doenlaod the latgest Beta version ?!?
Application log sows an entry that the setup failed ... nothing else.

Is there a log from the setup itself somewhere that could be helpful?
