depending on your pc's input for hdd's ( ide or sata are the most common) all
you need is the hdd and nothing else.if it is ide you will need to set it as
slave with the jumper pins on the back of the new drive and ensure that the
one installed is set to master as the master drive should contain your os.you
may then need a ide cable with 3 connection points and an extra legacy power
input from your pc's power supply.
If you computer mainboard uses sata it is much easier, simply plug the sata
cable into the back of the hdd and in sata slot 1 on your mainboard the
connect power to the hdd. some sata hdd still require legacy power connection
(same as that for dvd drives),but most use a sata power connector which is a
thin "L" shape like the sata data cable yet longer. New pc power units have
both legacy and/or sata power connectors but if you need to connect legacy
power to sata power input on the hdd you will need an adapter.
When this is done you should go into your bios setup to either activate or
check that the hdd has been recognised.
As for what drives are good? Well you can't go wrong with the big 3 :
Seagate , Western Digital or Maxtor. Also i wouldn't partition the drive in
bios as it is not required.I run 2 160gb hdd's, one for os and related
programs and the other for installed games,it makes life a lot better. Good
luck and reply if you have any further questions as i or others are always
gald to help .
