Hello,

Please help me find the prob:

I recently took my old drive out and put it in a new PC (Win XP sp 2). I had
to run a repair on it to get it to boot, and it all seemed fine except
updates are not working.

I get the 0x80070005 error. I tried giving Admin full access to the Windows
Update reg key. I tried running the solution that resets all admin perms on
the reg (saw it in the other thread here with the Reset.cmd file). I tried
giving file access on the whole root to everyone (I am desperate!)

I don't think I am running group policies?? (single home user)

Here is my log file: (just the start and end)

Hm, what applications are running in the background?

Have you tried downloading Version 2 of Windows Installer 3.1 manually?
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-de776fd4138c

What's the file version of the msi.dll to be found in the
\Windows\System32 folder?

Bye,
Freudi

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

Ok - the version of the dll was 3.0.3790.2180, so then I downloaded and
installed the Installer manually, and now it is 3.1.4000.2435 (succesful)

Now WUP shows me 14 new installs to install, but they all fail too!

Hm, okay.

Which error message/error code?

http://groups.google.com/groups?thre...TNGP05.phx.gbl
may be an option too.

Hi,

Ok, so Win 3.1 is now installed and downloading the updates fine (the
Windows icon in the panel on the right shows 94 updates to be installed). As
soon as it tries to install it fails with this message (so it seems to be a
diff. error now - 0x80072EE2!)
"Read more about steps you can take to resolve this problem (error number
0x80072EE2) yourself. "

Interestingly, after the Windows repair IE seems to have rolled back to ver
6! I guess it overwrote all the components?!

I did this step (in other post)
3.- Test this WGA diagnose test, connection to MS, that scripts working and
a new Validation tººl
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

and it all validates and looks fine.

I'll run the reg cleaner now...

Hmm - thats really wierd - SOMETHING fixed it and now it installed the
updates (through FF, NOT the one on the toolbar). And now that IE 7 is
installed WU now opens in IE again.

Thank you for your time and suggestions - something worked!
