Install failure of .Net Framework 1.1 SP1 but 2.0 x86 installed fi

I'm running Windows XP Pro and successfully installed .Net Framework 1.1 and
..Net Framework 2.0 x86 (KB829019). However, .Net Framework 1.1 SP1 continues
to fail. It throws the following error:

SL1E2.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience.

I don't see anyone else with this particular error and I presume .Net 1.1
SP1 is still necessary even after .Net 2.0 x86 is installed. Any
recommendations are appreciated.
