Hi Mohammed--
In my experience you get the ".inf not installed messages" when you didn't
get the driver in for those devices that Vista doesn't install drivers for
automaticaly via Windows Update--or have drivers in Vista shpping by default
(19,000 plus according to Ji Allchin when he was blogging on Vista for a
few months before he retired from MSFT).
These are often. but not confined to, drivers for older peripherals.
Usually this will get the driver in. Type devmgmt.msc into the run box.
If you see the device with a bang (explanation point) on it, and it may be
an unknown device, right click it>properties>add driver>browse>go to the
location where you have downloaded the driver (the file path) on your pc.
Even if a driver is on a CD or DVD, I would advise you to always go to the
manufacturer of the periperhal's web site to download the latest available
driver. When you open the folder where the driver is, if you click the
address bar in the explorer folder, you'll always get the correct driver
file path to ctrl+ c copy and ctrl+c paste.
If there is not an entry in device manager that seems appropriate, then try
doing the same with the add hardware wizard.
After doing either of these restart for good measure. If you score, you'll
see a progress bar going for a short time before you are notified that the
driver installed successfully.
This is what I have to do to get some older device drivers in for Vista like
a Nic card driver and a sound card driver for one of boxes that are several
years old, but work in Vista.
Good luck,
CH
