Install of .NET SP3 via Windows Update failed -- can't recover

Hello.

Even though I have automatic updates turned on, I occasionally come to
Windows Update via Internet Explorer to check for critical updates. Of late,
the only thing I find is the Microsoft .NET 1.0 SP3 (German) update, which
failed to install a few weeks ago when I tried to do it.

But now, when I try to install it again, it is guaranteed to fail. The
Windows Update client seems to think that it has already been downloaded, so
it doesn't download it again, just tries to install the same broken update as
before. Is there any way to clear that previously downloaded failure out and
start over?

Referring to another thread in this forum, my virus scanner is from McAfee.
Would this make any difference? Should I turn it off prior to running the
update? I expect such interference from Norton, which I avoid like the
plague, but I've never had any problems with McAfee up to now.

Thanks.

..NET Framework 1.0 has been upgraded to 1.1

please refer to the following steps to remove all .NET Framework components
and install version 1.1 instead.

1. http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools...eanup_tool.zip

using this tool to remove all .net framework related components, including
1.0 and 1.1

2. install the following 3 updates.

..NET Framework 1.1

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

See if this is relevant:-
Installation of .NET Framework service packs is not completed if you first
install security update MS05-004
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899619/

If not, is there a specific error code?
On the WU site, check installation history, located the failed update and
click on it to see if it gives you any specific error code.

Another place to check is the Windows Update log.
