install old sound schemes in Vista?

I was trying to install the old Robotz, Utopia, Jungle, and Musica sound
schemes in Vista.

They are available here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q135315/

Each scheme comes in its own .EXE file that contains the sounds and the INF
file that installs them.

When I run the INF file that comes with each scheme, this error message
appears, and the scheme doesn't get properly installed:

Error in mmsys.cpl
Missing entry:mmseRunOnce

Any help?

They aren't going to work, those themes rely on permissions and routines
that simply no longer exist.

He can always copy over the .wav files from an XP machine, or extract them,
and associate them manually to events, if he wants them that badly.

It's probably just the inclusion of a Windows Start-up sound that makes them
incompatible with Vista.

Actually, the error message given by the OP indicates that it was looking
for a library subroutine that no longer exists. It's a dependency issue, and
you're not going to be able to install and register Win95-era .dll's into a
Vista system folder.

I've just extracted all the files from the Utopia sound scheme installer,
using WinRAR. There is nothing stopping the OP from adding the .wav files
and setting the events manually.

It looks like the .inf file can be used to make a registry file to make the
event associations quickly, or added to a Vista sound scheme .inf file with
a bit of manipulation.
