install sp2 xp home, usb ports dont work

I installed sp2. Now my usb doesnt work. This means i cant use the mouse.
This makes navigating a pain. If there is a fix please help! I searched and
could *not* find a fix. I went into device manager. When selecting a device,
like usb, the box is blank. Same with all boxes. The keyboard works which is
through the ps/2. Is my only solution to buy a usb to ps2 connector?

Please help, navigating without mouse, I cannot get to places.

Go to Device Manager.
Uninstall all items under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Reboot.
