I have a new computer installed with Vista. I very much want to install XP
over Vista but when I try it won't recognize my hard drive. Setup is all in
Vista mode, which I'm ignorant of.
I have an empty partition, "drive D", but setup only looks for C.
Thanks so much for your help!

You cannot install XP over Vista. If you want to replace Vista with XP,
you must do a clean install. It sounds as though you have a SATA drive
and in that case you'll need to have your SATA drive controller drivers
on a floppy. During the early stages of XP's install, you'll need to
press F6 to use the drivers.

If you are trying to install XP as a dual-boot after you've already
installed Vista, that's another story. Post back with exactly what you
are trying to achieve.

I'm trying to replace Vista with XP. I don't have a floppy drive, though,
only a DVD. Could I put the driver on a memory stick or DVD?
Thanks, Summer

From what it sounds like, you set up the other partition as a dynamic drive.
Vista does not support dynamic drives and you will have to convert it to a
basic disk before you can continue, or if you already installed vista use
Microsoft support tools to change the dynamic drive to a basic. Go to
www.thelazyadmin.com for more info on this.
