installation failure! can't download SP2

i'm trying to download and install the SP2 but it keeps on failing for some
reason... it says: Installaiont Failure ( Error Code: 0x8007F0CC) but i think
it should download in the first place to be able to install??? i'm using
Windows XP Home Edition...can it be a virus problem? i really need help with
this Update so any suggestions on what should i do??

0x8007f0cc - STATUS_KERNEL_NONSTD
The core system file (kernel) used to start this computer is not a Microsoft
Windows file. The Service Pack will not be installed.

Error Code:8007F0CC happens if you have changed your "boot.ini" file.

Have you created a custom boot screen, or have you used software such as
Style
XP to alter your boot screen?

If you are using Style XP upgrade to the latest version. If you altered the
"boot.ini" file yourself and made a custom boot screen, just replace
"boot.ini"
with the backup you made before editing it.

i have never modified the 'boot.ini' file..can't it be that it modified with
out me noticing??? and if so that means i don't have a backup for it....i
didn't use Style XP..
