Installation failures after IE7 install

Fresh Windows reinstall and after IE7 installation failures keep popping up
for all updates. I tried to format and reinstall Windows again, same issue
right after updating to IE7. Seems like I update to IE7 and the installation
of updates fails, please help.

In my case ie7 install produced 'certificate errors' on my primary
webmail website (my internet providers webmail')..

So my fix was to install Firefox as it too had the certificate error
but it actually took care of it ... So its more likely that I will be
using IE7 less.

Its a shame, more and more applications from Microsoft are failing to
work or run more often. Next I expect MSOFFICE to stop working..

If that happens I will go Mac at least on non-developement computers in
my house.. I do work in Visual Studio so I have to have at least one xp
box & one Vista box in house (have 5: 2 are linux, 2 are MS whatever,
one is whatever I put on it).

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

Explain..
Are you talking about possibilities or actual failures.. because I
redid two of my xp boxes a week or so ago and have been getting updates
just fine. But then I presume I might be jumping the gun? - Though
Ive been getting some updates. But I havent gotten any errors other
than ie7 and only in the context of the ceritifcate errors which I think
are per the isp. But per that I switched back to Firefox anyway.
No time to fool with fixingwhatever happened there. And in my case
that ie7 problem is only on one xp pc.

In fact the only problem in months on any of my xp boxes has been one
recent ie7. In my case, the -redo of XP was per my getting 2 new pc's
and moving my xp boxes to another area.
