When trying to install a 164 MB hard drive in windows XP I get a message
"your operating system does not have suppoert for drives larger than 137 MB.
I HAVE INSTALLED ALL SERVICE PACKS. How do I correct?

Barry, I downloaded the intel application accelerator and than inserted the
Hitachi configuration CD for the new hard drive. I got to the same
installation point and got the samemessage "your operating system does not
have support for drives larger than 137MB. Also, the intel web site you
directed me to, stated "drives that are larger than 137GB, 48-bit lba support
can be added with Windows XP service pack 1. I have this service pack loaded
in my system. Whats next? The Intel chip is 810E.

I don't understand what you are doing. Ignore the installation cd, whatever
the hell that is. It's a hard drive, just plug it in and format the thing.
It might be a bug in it that elling you it's not support, see what size it's
actually showing up as in Disk Maanger.
