Another thing to try is right clicking on the software package you
downloaded from HP and selecting "Run as Administrator".

As you can see, you're not alone in this issue.... but HP seem unable or
unwilling to solve it for most folks. I'd suggest if you don't want to
spend more time on this problem, return the unit and get a Canon or Epson
multifunction unit.
