Installation problems with Windows SP2?

Hello guys, I'm having major headaches installing the SP2 update onto my XP
machine. The update has been downloaded correctly. Each time I try to install
the update I get an error message that says that my unique Windows key could
not be verified and the update could not be finished. I then cancel the
update, but a reminder screen pops up every so often reminding me that I have
updates ready to be installed. I have two questions. Why is the error message
appearing? And secondly, how can I completely cancel the install so that the
'new downloads ready to be installed' does not pop up every ten minutes?

Thanks guys

shane

If you are getting the following error message when attempting to update:

Error Message: The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

You'll have to purchase a new "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "Repair Install" using the new Windows XP Pro CD and Product Key
that comes with it. (You cannot simply change the Product Key)

Thanks for that. How can I stop the 'You have new updates ready for
installation' which is always in my taskbar?

Turn Off Automatic Updates:

1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER.
2. Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click to select Turn off Automatic Updates.
3. Click OK.
