Installation Problems WMP 10

I have the beta version which I have generally run without problems.
When I try to download this latest release I get "Windows Media Player is
not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the
Player from the Microsoft Web site?"
I have clicked yes and reinstalled but just get the same message again.
Any advice please?

Is the beta version listed in Add/Remove Programs ? If yes,
uninstall it first. If not, do a search of the system and delete all
instances of WMP.dll. Then try installing WMP 10.
