I am trying to install sp2 on an eMachine 2.12GHz processor with 512 MB on
RAM. I have tried to install sp2 by downloading it from the internet, and I
went to a computer supply store and tried to install it from a CD. In both
cases, when the machine restarted, I was informed that windows had not
shutdown normally, and was asked if I wanted to start in 1) safe mode, 2)
safe mode with networking, 3) safe mode with command prompt, 4) in last known
working configuration, and 5) in normal mode. When any of the options is
selected, windows will start to load, then I receive an extremely brief error
screen (goes by so fast I cannot read it), and the computer does a warm boot.

Any suggestions as to how to install sp2?

I'm not certain how to get to the area that sets whether the machine reboots
when it blue screens from a command prompt, but that would be a start. You
need to see what the message is.
If you have data you need to recover you could do a parallel install to
another folder and them change the registry setting on the failed
installation to see what happened... or just reinstall everything from the
start and make sure the reboot on fail isn't set.
It's most likely a driver issue but without seening the errorm message
I also just became aware of this link and it's a good one
