Hello... really hoping someone can help me.
My computer was acting up last night and I was told I needed to install
'repair installation' with my Windows XP Home Edition cd. I did that, but now
I have 76 updates that need to be installed. My computer is VERY slow and the
yellow update icon is in the bottom right hand corner. Whenever I try to
install the updates, it just tells me they have failed. NO error number. I'm
at risk and nothing wants to work right until they have all installed.
How the heck do I install these 76 updates???

Hello Engel
I've done what was recommended to Dasha and still no results. My 76 updates
still 'fail'. I am at a total loss at this point as to what to do. Thanks for
trying to help though!

I've got exactly the same problem - have tried suggestion, also just about
all tips on 'Windows Update fails'. No luck so far. Very reluctant to turn
computer off as never sure that it will restart! Have tried automatic
updates and microsoft updates - seems to download but not install. No error
messgaes, therefore no clues.
Any further suggestions gratefully received.

I have just tried the suggestion below, recommended by Bob ((leanin' cedar)
in a previous email on this site (see Joe Medford - 8.10.07) - it worked.

1. Click on Start and then click Run,
2. In the open field type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and
press Enter.
3. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" message,
click OK.
4. Please repeat these steps for each of the following commands:
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Glad it worked for you.
I have spent the last couple of weeks with Google finding ways to fix this
on friends computers.

This fix came in an email from MS that was forwarded to me from someone in
an IT Board.

Also had this problem, after a fresh winxp pro install, then update to SP2,
updates would download but not install.

Error code 0x80080008.

THIS WORKED for me!!

Thanks, Edmund.

P.S.: Pls could someone file this solution also in the Microsoft Update
Troubleshooter which you reach from the Microsoft Update page? Would be
handy! Greetings
