I applied the six updates that were available today and they installed
successfully and said to restart my computer. On the restart screen I got a
screen full of ">>>>>>" which filled the entire screen and then nothing more
happened. I had to shut off the computer and then when I restarted the
computer it wouldn't boot up at all. It said Disk Failure. It appears this
update has crashed my computer. Has anyone else had this problem. My computer
is dead and I can't even get to a "Safe Boot" screen. I am writing this on
another computer.

Am update can't cause a "disk failure". The latter is a hardware issue.

How old is the system?

If your system is "dead", the PC wouldn't turn on. Maybe saying "Windows
won't boot properly" is better.

[Not being picky but they do make a difference when trying to diagnose.]

Unsure on what the ">" are but it doesn't sound good.

If you did get a disk failure, get a diagnostic CD/DVD/floppy from the hard
disk's manufacturer's site and test it.

For the ">>>>>>" issue, make sure that there are no stuck keys on the
keyboard.
Which edition of Windows and what Service Pack level, please ?
