An installed application starts in 8-bit mode instead of 32-bit.

Control CI installed Borland Delphi 3 Professional, a 32-bit Windows
Development Environment, on my Acer Aspire computer with Windows Vista Home
Premium operating system. I set compatibility to WIN98 and 256 color mode,
but each time I start the application my display resets down to low
resolution 8-bit color mode. When I exit the application, the display
reverts back to high resolution 32-bit mode. I can go into Control Panel and
Adjust Screen Resolution back up to high 32-bit while the application is
running, and then everything looks fine, but the application goes back to low
resolution 8-bit mode every time it is started. Can someone please help me
solve this perplexing problem? Thank you for any assistance and suggestions.

Contact Borland for an update. App compat mode is there to shim
applications to give them some ability to work (which yours does), but its
not meant as a workaround for software that needs updated.

Actually, I solved this problem already by removing the 256 color checkmark
from the compatibilty window. Thanks for the try, but Borland doesn't give
much of any assistance to owners of older software. They want you to buy the
latest version of DELPHI for about $900, of course. For other people who are
having problems with Borland software, or any other software that utilizes
the Borland Database Engine (BDE) on a Vista equiped computer, please see the
fix for this at the following address:

Thanks for information.

I knew they might not have support for it but I personally dont use Borland
so I wasnt sure. Glad you got it worked out.

Rickoff, on the subject of Borland software, Delphi in partular, you
wouldn't happen to know of any freeware database components for Delphi
that will allow the creation of database programs that do not use BDE
and does not require runtime support DLLs?

Perhaps something that uses XML?
