Outlook Express 5.5. There was an error opening this message. There
is not enough memory. Win98SE. Installed KB918547 & KB917344
recently.

I have a user on a network getting a lot of error messages in OE.
These errors were first noticed today.

They have a Win98SE machine, Outlook Express 5.5

A few days ago I installed KB918547 & KB917344, and the computer has
not been used since then.

When they open some messages in OE, a window popus up

Outlook Express X

----------------------------------------------------------------
! There was an error opening this message.

There is not enough memory

OK

This happened with a few of the messages. I cleared out the Windows
cache folder, temp & temporary Windows folders.

I also cleared out everything from Internet Options in the Control
panel (history, etc)

Shut the machine off. Rebooted and tried again. Several messages
opened fine, then the problem came right back.

There are only 244 messages in the Inbox.

Any ideas? Could these two Windows updates have caused this? I've
seen this problem in the past on some machines, but it didn't seem to
became a big problem. Could something in the message content have
caused this?

Thanks for any help.

Asked/Answered in OE General newsgroup. If you must make identical posts to
multiple newsgroups, please cross-post one (1) message to all of them.
Thank you.

Multiposting vs Crossposting:

NB: IE/OE 6 SP1 is considered at Critical Update for Win9x.

How do I cross post in Free Agent?
I'll take a look at your link to see if it explain how.

I'm aware IE SP1 is listed as a critcal update, but choose not to
install it as IE6 is probably more of a target. We use the latest
version of FireFox as the primary web browser.

IE is very much part & parcel of Windows: Without IE6 SP1 installed, Windows
is /not/ as secure as it could be, no matter what browser you use; therefore
your machine is in fact "more of a target." <w>

Thanks for the advice. This topic was discussed in detail on this and
other lists last year or prior.

I've started a new thread on the topic to see what experts in general
are saying these days.

By the way, this error has not reoccurred for the past few days, so it
could have been an entirely different problem.
