Installed Microphone wont work

basically, ive checked the sounds, it says the microphone is working,
but i try to record but nothing happens. i have windows vista home
edition

Is the mike on "mute" ?

how do i check lol? it says the volume etc is up

Check if "microphone" is default audio recording device or "line in" is
default. To check goto control panel>sound>recording. To set microphone as
default right click on microphone and click set as default. Apply it and try
to record. Another thing is if you are using HP laptop and using a normal
audio jack external microphone then keep that jack little (about 2-3mm)
outside the point then only it will work.

Take the computer apart, unsolder and remove the old jack, attach the 2.5
mm jack, and resolder it.

That's a slightly sardonic way of saying you can't change it. Since you
didn't quote what you're responding to, I don't know why you would want to
change it.

For the same reason (no quote), I have no idea what the right click remark
means, so I won't comment further on that.
