I installed SP1. Now when I search I get a dialog with the following:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performaing this
action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."

Any clues? As far as I know search worked fine before I installed SP1.

Where are you starting search from when you get this message - start,
Control Panel, within the folder etc.

Are there two files in:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Config
If not, you need those. They can be copied in.
C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_windowssearchengine_31bf3856 ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_47e1b1bb326f0fb4
\gathrprm.txt
and
..../schema.txt

Thanks for the help! I am starting the search by typing a search string into
the "Start Search" dialog off the main menu.

Thanks for the help!

From that link:

Associate the search protocol with a program:
1. Click Start, and then click Default Programs.
2. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
3. Select the search protocol, and then click Change program.
4. Select the program that you want as the default program for handling the
search protocol, and then click OK.

There is no "search protocol" in the list. that comes up.
