OK, but how old were those upgraded machines?
And I'm sure you own a major brand that offers full support
with updated (or almost brandnew) drivers.
I'm on a 3 yo "Medion" Intel P4 2.0 Mhz PC (medion.com) -
from bottom to top filled up with propriety hardware
(OEM versions of MSI video, custom mainboard and PCI cards,
drivers without MS signing, etc)
When I upgraded to SP2 I had to reinstall XP from scratch -
Medion simply does not support SP2 on "older" machines
and does not offer any updated drivers.
Medion is a major player in Europe,
but if I want SP2 I'm advised to buy "a compatible pc" -
a new one...
If an OEM does not offer support for a new OS
(which XP SP2 basically is)
users of slightly "older" machines are left in the cold,
whatever great security service packs MS provides..
I'm not alone - I know many people who cannot upgrade to SP2
due to their 2 y.o. hardware.
