My update history shows the following entries for "Definition Update for
Windows Defender KB 915 597":

(Definition 1.49.2376.0) 24/01/2009 Successful
(Definition 1.49.2376.0) 23/01/2009 Successful
(Definition 1.49.2195.0) 20/01/2009 Successful
(Definition 1.49.2011.0) 19/01/2009 Successful
(Definition 1.49.2011.0) 18/01/2009 Successful
(Definition 1.49.2011.0) 17/01/2009 Successful

However, if I look in:

Control Panel > Programs and Features > Installed updates

I cannot see an entry for KB 915 597.
I can see about 90 other updates.

If I do: "Check for updates", I am told that "Windows is up to date"

Please advise.

Those are definition updates - not system updates.
In other words - it is giving Windows Defender a new list of bad guys to
look for/compare against.

I don't think that will ever go into your Control Panel --> Add or Remove
Programs. It's very similar (exactly more like) to any antivirus software
(or other antispyware software) doing the same thing. You would control it
with the software itself and most likely be unable to do anything other than
perhaps disable/uninstall the software that is getting the updated lists.

Hi Shenan,

Thanks for the response

That makes a lot of sense.
