Well, IT finally gave us the go ahead to install sp2 at work --
We got patches for software that wouldn't work right with sp2.
thought I'd pass along my comments--
Preparing for sp2 -- did defrag, even though it said it wasn't
necessary. Took over a half hour (!!) -- disk was only 10% full, but
it did get rid of those few red lines.
Installing SP2--
Amazingly simple -- took about 15 minutes from when clicked on the
install wizard and it started downloading, until the computer was
rebooted and up and running.
Problem--
Could not turn on firewall.
Could not look for updates on update site
Solution--
On some of our computers we had a conflict between sp2 security and the
security template we had on our computers -- easy to fix (we worked this
one out before we tried putting sp2 on the machines)
Problem--
Some of the computers could not see shared files on other computers,
even if you specifically authorized that user access, and opened file
permissions wide open.
Solution--
Had to authorize subnet access to firewall
IT lets us update our own computers, because they figure we can screw
them up easier than they can
By the way, seems like I got an increase in speed with SP2. I'm still
edgy about putting it on my home PC though.
