I'm running Windows XP (w/SP2) and IE 7. When I go to the site to update
windows, (http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...ult.aspx?ln=en )
It tells me I need ActiveX controls to view the web site. It tells me I
should:
"1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just
below the address bar."
Problem: The information bar is not visible.

It also says: "Note: If the Information Bar doesn't appear, or if you've
installed the control but still can't use the website, take these steps to
solve the problem. "

I do that and it takes me to a search screen. Not much help.

How in the world can I install ActiveX control so it works on this web site.
Otherwise, I can't check for updates to Windows XP.

If Internet Explorer default settings are on, you'll see the Information Bar:

This article explains how to install the WU activex controls manually if required -
The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan for updates
when you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or of Windows XP
Service Pack 1
