Hey,
Same problem here. I've tried to install the Outlook 2003 junk email filter
once when prompted by auto updates, and twice once I went to the MS website.
I hope we can all get an answer soon....

Guess there must be something wrong with the update and not my PC as I
surmised. Perhaps Microsoft can give us some idea.

Thanks for your info. Looks like it may be the update itself. Hope MS can help

Do you get a specific error message in the log? If so, search the message
number and you may find your answer.

No specific error message attached, just the failure to install. Does not say
why it
failed. Though, after turning on my PC this morning I found that the gold
'UPDATE READY' shield has disappeared from my screen.

Spoke too soon, it's back. Tried Microsoft support and followed instructions
from 6 pages I downloaded called 'HOWTO TROUBLESHOOT FAILURES UPDATING YOUR
OFFICE INSTALLATIONS FROM THE OFFICE UPDATE WEB SITE.' Still have the same
problem. Maybe soon i'll have the answer.

I'm new to this but am experiencing exactly the same problem. Windows udates
ok but when trying to get the Office 2003 updates (kb887979, kb902953,
kb887980 and kb892258) it always reports "failed". I can't even access the
web page to find out what is causing the problem. Will someone at MS note
this problem and respond? I'd hoped that this forum would provide answers ans
assistance
