installing both 32 bit and 64 bit Ultimate

I see that both the 32-bit and the 64-bit DVD's are included. I would like to
try the 64-bit but would like to have the 32-bit to fall back on. Can this be
done?

Sure, as long as you don't have both versions running simultaneously. I
would suggest that you go straight to x86 (32-bit) unless you have x64
specific applications. x64 does not have the same driver support as x86. And
even if there are x64 drivers available for all your hardware, the
performance difference most likely will not, uh, WOW you.

With Ultimate, the license allows the user to install Vista on a VirtualPC
within Vista, up to 9 times, or something like that. So you can install
32-bit on VirtualPC, which is running on 64-bit. This is a great way of
keeping apps that won't run on 64-bit, but is no use for hardware, or large
applications that have high hardware requirements.

Yes, it can be done. But if you fall back to the 32-bit version you will
need to use telephone activation since the product key will already have
been used to activate the 64-bit version.

On another note, unless you have a need to run the 64-bit version, don't
bother. There is no benefit to running it compared to 32-bit, and it's
quite more likely that the 32-bit version will be better supported by the
software and drivers you will need.
