Installing MP3 player with Windows XP

I just got a MP3 Player for xmas & I am trying to load it to my computer.
The manual says that WindowsXP will automatically detect it - but it is not.
It keeps coming up saying "USB Device Not Recoginized". I called technical
support for the MP3 player & they suggested hooking it up to another computer
to see if it was the device or our computer. It loaded on our other
computer. It's like our "driver" is missing. We don't know how to fix it -
HELP!
