I went to Windows Update Center and tried to download and install .Net
framework version 1.1 on my laptop with Windows XP Home (no sp2). Every time
I tried that, I get an error while installing.
Error Code is 643.
I'm looking for a solution.

Thanks

643 error code is a generic meaning of install failed. Which you probably
have already figured out. Unfortunately some updates still do not have the
robust error reporting as the newer updates released.

So that means there is no solution :'(
I have upgrades to the service pack for Win XP Pro. AT the begining it gave
me an error 0. I read in this forum to clean up the installation folders by
writting acommand on the cmd.exe. So I did. But then I got the error 663.
Someone in this forum said that Eric57 solution worked for him. So I tried
without success. Finally, I decided to do a re-install, but now I can't even
install it again It gives me the error 643. I tried Eric57 again because
that soultion is exactly for this error but i cannot even install the
Redistributable packages. =(

Perhaps no solution using WU. Notice that OP's problem is already
independent of WU which makes this thread OT here.
He might have better luck posting in a group which specializes
in the software being installed.

What command? Something from KB824643?

> But then I got the error 663.

When? Where? Details!

BTW I'm curious if the 643 code is decimal or hex and it appears
that some have confused it in the past with 0x80070643 which is
probably something else. Unfortunately as usual so few details
are being provided by both of you that I mostly can only offer
only my sympathy.

FWIW here are my previous comments related to this issue:

Hi,

In reading KB815176 it says that you can install .net framework on
systems including NT 4.0, but it says that you need to have IIS 5 installed.
However IIS 5 to my knowledge (and reading posts) can't be installed on NT
4.0. Does having small business server for NT 4 make a difference? I'm not
familiar with it as I'm installing it on a friend's machine.

Thanks - Zack

cmd.exe /c rd /s /q %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
from here:

"Error: 643" that's what is shown in my install log, so i guess it's decimal.

btw i have winxp with service pack 2.

So you want to try to do this using WU?
That's your principal objective?
Did that command work? Did it remove all of the files and all
of the subdirectories in the SoftwareDistribution folder?

I'm not sure what logs that update creates.
Try doing an Explorer search for all files changed on that day.
You can further find files changed within the period that you did
the update by changing the Search results window to View Details
and sorting them by Date Modified. It may be sufficient just to
search for files which have an extension of *.log like that.
Or to find just files which contain that error code enter that
in the word or phrase... field (still limited by the date range).
Make sure that no other options (e.g. size, type, case, etc)
interfere with the remaining generality of your search.

Try extracting from any diagnostics which that procedure uncovers
ones which demonstrate what is happening during your update attempt.

Which file was that exactly? Why not post an excerpt in case
there is something else there that gives someone else an idea
for you?

Where are you reading that?

Here's what I see:

<quote>
Verify that Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 is Installed

To deploy an ASP.NET application, you must have Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0
installed on the target system. You do not have to have IIS for Windows forms applications
that use the .NET Framework.
</quote>

The last sentence seems to prove that there is a case where IIS
is not required without reference to OS; therefore IIS is not *required*
for NT4. Perhaps it would help if you disclosed your intended application?

BTW questions about .Net Framework, including ones about installing it
may be answered better in newsgroups which specialize in it
or even in newsgroups which specialize in your OS. WU is essentially
a delivery agent. Installing updates automatically is secondary.
It sounds as if you don't even have a requirement to use WU
to get the download done which makes this discussion almost off-topic.

Good luck

Yes am trying to update it from WU. My main objective is install .Net
The command removed every download from WU not all the folder.
