Compatability mode is used to run applications
but not to install them. So if the applications won't install, they won't
install.
BTW: Vista does not have a DOS mode, no version of NT ever did other than an
emulated command prompt.
The idea of running the apps in win98 running from within a virtual machine
should be just fine
