Installing for over 10 hours?

When I went to shut down my computer, I received the message not to shut down
because there was an automatic update that needed to be installed. The next
day, 10 hours later, my computer is still "installing update 1 of 1." I
needed the computer and could not wait indefinitely, so I shut it down and
restarted it.

What would make the installation take over 10 hours? The update is KB890830.

That happens to be Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool. Maybe it
found something? It downloads once a month and checks your machine for
malware.
Are you covered by anti-spyware/virus software as it may have found
something and got bogged down.

I am covered by anti-spyware/virus software. I will try to download it from
the website. Thanks.
