There is no error message. By event viewer do you mean the task manager?
"If" I can open the task manager it only shows "Media Center (not responding)
under applications. I tried selecting different MPEG-2 decoders using the
Windows Media Decoder Checkup Utility. (in the original e-mail I said I
didn't change that, but that was after reinstalling Update Rollup 2. While
it wasn't working - before reinstalling the rollup - I did try selecting
different drivers.) Sometimes I couldn't get to the task manager, and had to
do a hard reboot. There were never any error messages. I didn't try
recorded TV. Right now, Media Center works. It was hard to get back there,
having to uninstall then manually reinstall Update Rollup 2. I want to know
what's wrong before trying to get PowerDVD8 working, if possible, due to the
time involved in experimenting.
