Installing printer over a network from an XP machine

I have a relatively new Toshiba laptop with 1 Gb ram running Vista Business
edition. I am trying to install a Samsung network printer which is connected
to an XP computer. I can see the printers on the XP machine but when I try to
install I get a message telling me to close programs as there is insufficient
memory available. Other than Add Printer no other programs are running.

Any ideas about how to overcome this?

Is the printer supported with Vista drivers? Have you tried installing the
drivers locally and then connecting to the network printer?

Have you tried adding the XP's printer from Vista's "Network and sharing" >
"Add Network Device"> printer on XP

I was having the exact same problem with a Samsung CLP-510 connected to one
of my desktops with XP. I upgraded my Toshiba to Vista and hed no problems
except that neither Network Magic nor Windows could install the printer so I
could send files through the router to print them. I even bought some more
RAM - same problem. Every time I tried to get the laptop to install the
printer drivers, the CPU usage went to 100% and then the message that there
was not enough memory.

SOLUTION: I finally went to the Samsung site, downloaded and installed the
Vista drivers for my 510 printer on the laptop (it will let you do that even
though the printer is not "attached" to the laptop - answer "no" when it asks
and continue). Then the printer was added to the network and all is working
fine now.

What annoys me it that Vista (if it is so smart) ought to say it can't
locate the drivers - not that there is "not enough memory" when that is not
the real problem. Very frustrating, but other than that, I think I like
Vista.

All the other printers on the network installed the drivers with no problem,
except the laptop simply had to have the Vista drivers on the laptop itself
for the Samsung to be installed properly.

I had the same issue and installing the Vista drivers did not fix the
problem. However, after going to Control Panel | Network and Sharing Center
and turing on Printer sharing, I was able to install the network printer
without any errors.
