Installing router

I want to install a Linksys router on a new Toshiba laptop with Vista Home
Premium.

Two questions:

1. The Linksys software says to close all running programs. Vista starts up
with 15 or 16 programs. Do I need to close all these? Can I close them all at
once?

2. Some windows that come up on the computer are too large for the screen
and I can't access necessary buttons because they are below the bottom of
view. How do I fix this?

Thanks,

PR46

All you have to do is close all open windows, it should work then.

As for the second part, is it possible to make the screen smaller manually?
Or can you press the maximize or minimize buttons?

Don't close any of vista's startup programs to install router software
Just close anything that YOU have open: documents, word,Excel, IE7, etc

1. I recommend closing any anti-virus and anti-spyware before installing,
especially since so many such programs these days are blocking Registry
changes.

2. Right click a blank spot on the desktop and choose personalize. In the
left side click the option to adjust font size (DPI) and accept the UAC
prompt. Set it to Normal (96 DPI).

Thanks for the helpful replies. Frank, you nailed one problem—the dpi was
set too high. However, I can't reset to the default because the screen is so
large the OK and Apply buttons are not visable/accessable.

many times you can drag the window up to where the buttons are visible, an
extreme somution is to use OSD to move the screen until you can see it.

Frank, I'm new to this board and I don't understand how to make a separate
reply to your post. My reply ends up in your post?? I also noticed that posts
roll off the top page very quickly!

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try a few things and will
report any success I might have.

Thanks

Paul

Right click its icon on the taskbar and select Move. Then use the arrow
keys.

Frank, the magic solution was ALT/spacebar - M. That gave me the move arrows
and I was able to move the window up enough to reset the dpi. Router now
installed.

Thanks for helping out.
