Installing SP2 Update

When I try to install SP2 update from the cd, it hangs when backing up
files...registry. When I do an con alt del, it tells me SP2 Update is not
running. My Add Remove Programs says SP2 is installed, but I know it isn't. I
have none of the features I have on my laptop where SP2 in successfully
installed. I continually get the update message from my task bar, but I gave
up trying to install auomatically, as it always stalled. Now the same thing
is happening when I try to install by cd. I am running XP Home. I have plenty
of memory. I don't have any problems installing/uninstalling programs except
for SP2. Thanks. Jane

I'm having very similar problem.Have tried once via updates,and twice with
cd.I could uninstall ok first 2 times,but last time didn't.error said "system
could not find file specified",then"sp2 not uninstalled" still showing as
installed,but no features.If I can't "uninstall" how cani try to install
again? (not that I feel like trying again!!!)
[ps: could I use a downloaded uninstaller?]
