It' not possible to go further with the installation!Next step is the setup
of a partnership a think.
Does anyone can help me.

Hi Mangelschots,

If the Activesync is not getting installed correctly, try the following:

First delete all the files under the temp folder on your desktop ---

1. Click Start -> Run and type

%temp%

2. Click Ok
3. Delete all the files that appear. (This is a temporary folder where the
setup extracts files)
4. Create a new folder and move the MSASYNC.EXE file to this folder and run
the setup again.

Please let me know if it works for you.

I have tried your solution but it does not work for me.
I cannot install completely ActiveSynch. After the ActiveSynch installtion
window pops up and you have to click on OK to continue I have only 6 seconds
elapse time to stay in the installation process. After 6 seconds the
installation is closed whatever I do. ( if I click on OK or not ).
Do you know if there is a timer set at the start of the installation when
the installation procedure looks for something which is not found for
example ( a port or something else).
It looks to me it could be a timer but I am not sure as I never receive any
error message or a warning..
Any idea what could interrupt the installation task ?
Thanks

Hi,

The setup file is a single compact file that contain the installation files
along with information about the location where these files should be
placed, DLLs are registered and I think it checks for the ports available
as well. I don't think any timer is involved.

I guess you must have already tried all the troubleshooting solutions that
were mentioned in our earlier correspondence on the newsgroup quite
sometime ago. And you sure are having a very unique problem... since
it doesn't throw any error message.

Have you tried looking in the Event Viewer for any clues on what the
problem might be during installation??

To open the Event Viewer in Win XP ---

* Click Start, click Control Panel, click
Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools,
and then double-click Event Viewer.

Or

* Click Start -> Run and type

%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

Click Ok.

I suggest you start off again by completely uninstalling Activesync. You
might have to do it manually. And then open the Event Viewer. Run the
Activesync Setup and after the dialog disappears, In the Event Viewer
Click Action -> Refresh. See if it lists any error in the Application and
System window.

Have you tried installing other software applications (Other then the
different versions of Activesync). See if you are able to run setup files
of other software applications. In addition, also try contacting the
support team of your Pocket PC provider.

Hi Raj,

Thank you for your answer.
I cleaned the Event Viewer ( application, security and system) and after
ActveSynch was uninstalled I have started a new installation of ActiceSynch
3.7. I did not click on the Inastallion window and after 6 seconds this
wondow closed down automatically. I checked in the Even viewer after a
refresh and nothing had been recorded !
In the Wcesetup.log I found the following lines:

OS = WinNT2000
Verifying TcpIp is installed
No previous install detected
Install Dir = C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync
StartMenu Folder = Microsoft ActiveSync
Port = <no previous port used>
Exchange installed
Outlook installed

I tried also to run the ActiveSynch installation in closing down as many
applications I could and in clicking very quickly on the OK button of the
installation window and of course the wcesetup.log had more lines in it and
the last line was:

SetupCopyOEMInf failed with error: 13

Any idea what this means ?

Among the many trials I made I used the Windows XP CD using a clone of the
drive in my ThinkPad and I did a corrective installation where all the
modules are refreshed ( of course you loose the SP1) and I run the
installaion process and I got exactly the sams result!!

Do you know if there is any substitute to ActiveSynch I could use ?
By the way installations of other applications run fine!

Hello,

I would like to take a look at the Wcesetup.log. I would appreciate if you
could mail it to me.

"SetupCopyOEMInf failed with error: 13"

This is an error generated by the Setup Application Programming Interface
(API). For detailed information about this function you can refer to the
following MSDN article ---

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...copyoeminf.asp

Basically, the SetupCopyOEMInf function copies a specified INF file to the
%windir%/Inf directory. I believe the error 13 refers to "The data is
invalid." (Not very certain though). I had it looked up the System Error
Codes.

I suggest you try the following ---

1. On your computer Click Start -> Run and type

%windir%/Inf

2. Click Ok and a Window will appear displaying various INF/PNF files.
3. Sort by "Name" and view the listing in "Detail", so that all information
about the file is visible.
4. Locate OEMx.inf and OEMx.PNF (where x is any number) files that are zero
bytes long. Delete all zero byte OEMx.INF and OEMx.PNF files in this
folder.
5. Reboot and then try reinstalling ActiveSync.

I am not aware of any sync software that can be used as a substitute to
Activesync since most of the leading sync software needs Activesync to be
installed first. An exception would be PocketMac, however, it is designed
for Macintosh operating system.

I sincerely hope this helps solving the problem of yours. Good luck !!

A .INF file is a setup information text file and it is used to extend the
setup process using internal setup engine of the operating system. I
suggest you try the following ---

1. On your computer Click Start -> Run and type

%windir%/Inf

2. Click Ok and a Window will appear displaying various INF/PNF files.
