Hello There. I have couple questions.

I am trying to buy Vista 64bit OEM DVD (Home Premium version).

But I am wondering...

Can I install Vista 32bit by using 64bit OEM DVD and License?

I heard that 64bit version of DVD includes 32bit version on Vista.

Is this true?

If it is true, does Vista ask me to choose 32bit or 64bit while installing process?

Thanks in Advance.

Matt.

no if you buy a 32 bit you cant install a 64 bit version of vista. if the
dvd says 32 bit it will install only a 32 bit vista.

Hi,

This is an interesting area, here's the story so far as I can gather

1) Microsoft used to make replacement media available free ($10)
shipping, if you lost or damaged your dvd, or maybe didn't get one. Now
they only do this if you have the Retail version.

2) They also offer a free upgrade 32 to 64 bit - they send you the dvd
($10 )
on which you can use your same Retail product key - again, this is only
if you have the Retail version.

3) If you get e.g the OEM 32bit Ultimate dvd and product key from say,
Newegg for $179, and then want to go to 64bit - you have to buy the OEM
64bit dvd and product key for another $179.

This seems to imply that if you buy the Retail version, the one key is
good for both bit versions, but if you buy OEM version, you have to buy
the license again for the other bit version. I also had a response from
a microsoft person, on a related matter, which seemed to indicate this
was the case.

However, in a response to another thread someone posted they had
successfully used the same OEM key on both bit versions.

It therefore appears it may be a marketing ploy.

I have asked one of the MVP's who frequents this site to clarify, and
am still waiting to hear.

Theory of Everything - have you used the same OEM product key for both
bit versions? If you have , then that would confirm it.

Many Thanks

Sorry, but no. The retail DVDs offer one this choice, but not the OEM
DVDs.

Thanks everyone !!!!

Now I am very clear that I have to buy Vista 32bit Home Premium OEM DVD for
my need.

Vista 64bit is very tempting but I am not ready, yet.

Thank you very much!

Matt

Sorry but Not an OEM. Only the Retail version of the Vista Ultimate is applicable to do what you are asking

Aleko, the product key is valid for both the 32 bit and the 64 bit version
and if he finds a disk he can install any one of those (but not 2 of them as
the same time) with that product key he owns
