Trying to install Vista as an upgrate over WinXP Pro I was told in an error
message thet Alcohol 120% (an ISO type utility program) had to be
uninstalled, along with Nero6. OK did that, uninstalled OK accooording to
Win XP.
But the Vista installer still says I must uninstall Alcohol 120%.

I have used regedit to remove every referencr in the registry that I can
find to "Alcohol" but still the Vister installer says I have to remove
Alcohol 120% before I can do an upgrade.

I am trying out the Vista install on a cloned copy of my spare Win XP
computer on a spare hard drive, to iron out the bugs, so it doen't matter a
lot if something goes wrong.

But this Alcohol 120% thing is driving me to DRINK, seriously, I have
uninstalled it and remover every reference I can find, what can I do to get
around it please.

Any ideas welcomed thanks.

Install vista as a clean install it works much better that way. If you
have a full copy or an OEM copy then put the disk in and use the
instaler to format the partiton and then to install Vista. If you have
an upgrade disk then you have to fiddle a little. Put the disk in and
boot from it, choose to install windows and when it asks for a serial
number do not put a serial in juts click next, after a warning it will
proceed with the install and you can format and install. As soon as it
is finished run the installer a second time from within windows but
this time put the serial number in and it will run through the
install, as soon as it gets back into windows you might be advised to
delete the Windows1 ( the original install ) directory.

NEVER mix alcohol and working on your computer, you'll **** something up.

Just because you and numerous other luddite cunts haven't got the technical
acuity to use something new it doesn't mean that nobody else should use it.

applications like alcohol and daemon-tools create (and leave behind, i
suppose) device drivers that allow them to emulate optical drives... dig
around in your device manager for an entry like 'a423bus' or something
similar. checking out the applications' support forums/google would
probably reward you with the proper name of the driver in question.

that's all i can think of outside of registry entries or maybe
[un]installer stuffs.

peace.
