I wonder why... all these so called techs are around no one ever
mentioned of installing Vista on a 2nd hard drive.. shame on you..!

.. so that if anything goes wrong like it appears to do in these pages
one has a usable operating system left... and a few file's that aren't
lost.

A hard drive doesn't cost all that much today.

That's what I've been doing for years...
I must have over 22 drives in removable drive kits
on my three main machines.

I performed a test install of Vista...
but all my exisiting OS's remain intact!

Because Windows that fail so much it needs to have a backup install. Its
better just to have a back image of the installation that you can restore, a
second hard disk does come in handy.

Thanks to Philo & Andre...
Looking through the boards I've not come across such advice... and of
course when files are lost all 'hell brake's loose', you end up with
pages and pages of drivel and fur flying all over the place - and about
ten pages of repeated quote's lol.

Another advantage, you can have as many OS's as you wish... can play
around with other op sys. not caring if you have a crash or not.

How many times have you read 'have you made a back up of your files',
er......?

Oh well, thanks for the replies, keep the ol' hard drive spinnin'.

Look harder -- there's plenty of mention of doing this and my XP is
dual booted with VISTA on two different disks.

You'll also find problems if you search on System Restore.......

It is quite simple; most of the cheapskates on here only wanted to do an
upgrade from XP. You can lead a horse to water; you can't make it drink!
