Installing Win XP Automatic Updates

Windows XP Microsoft Help says, "If your computer is turned off during a
scheduled update, updates are installed the next time you start your
computer."

Computers are shut down at night, but are plugged into network. Computers
require students to logon to a domain file server or administrator to logon
to local machine. (The Windows NT sys op does not push out updates to
computers. Updates are to be done on each computer.)

Will updates be installed as soon as computer is turned on or does someone
have to log on? If someone has to log on, must it be the administrator in
order for the updates to install?

Can the computers be set up so that the students can install the updates? If
so, can the permissions be configured so that they do not install things
other than updates. If so, how and where do you set up these permissions?

Sharon,

When setting up the Automatic Updates to Scheduled Install this will allow
Automatic Updates to install only updates downloaded from the WindowsUpdate
site automatically. If the computer is either in Standby, Hibernate, of
Turned off which causes the scheduled time to be missed, the computer will
then install the updates 1 minute after the machine has resumed or been
turned on. In Scheduled mode the machine will not require any user to be
logged on to install updates.

I hope this answers you questions.
thanks
