Installing Windows Generic Printer Driver

I have an inkjet printer conncted to a USB port and have a printer
driver using a USB port - which I intend to keep.

I would like to install the Generic/text only driver as well.

I think that I should also configure this driver to use the USB port.
Am I correct?

I do not know any of the printer language codes. Will Vista take care
of this?

I note that in the drivers list there are also two IBM generic
drivers. Are these only for IBM printers? Or can they be used as well
to run any printer. If so, are they likely to offer more functions
than the Microsoft Generic printer? If used, presumably they should be
configured to a USB port?

Thanks

Forgot to ask

When Vista asks for a disk to install the Generic Driver, I presume
that this means the Vista OS Disc. Am I correct?

I also note that the MS XPS Document Writer Driver is installed at
setup. This driver is configured to run from the XPS local port.
Because my printer is connected to a USB port, do I need to alter this
setting to USB?

Thanks
