installshield not working

hi all

i purchased windows vista ultimate about 2-3 months ago.well i have a
problem with "installshield updatemanager" which is located at control
panel>additional options>program updates.

i've checked the "problem reports and solutions"centre but it says nothing
about this problem.

the problem that am having is when the automatic weekly updates check is
done and the "update manager" window appears for the updates i can't do
anything.

none of the links are working in the window,i can't minimise the window or
close it with the "x icon" nothing like that and when there's update's i try
to download and install but i think nothing is happening.

a virus also a spy/adware scan has been done and the problem is still there.

i had to do a system restore because windows vista was acting irratically
for example i opened my "documents" window and my "computer" window and got
blank screens the few web browsers (IE7) i had opened worked fine and the
internet radio was working ok as well.

the only way i could close the "update manager" window was via "task manager".
